June 2010 Member of the Month: Clarkston Vet Clinic
Clarkston Vet Clinic opened in 1978. Dr David Roen built and opened the primarily large animal practice after working at Lewiston Vet Clinic. Over the years, he started seeing more and more small animals until he finally “got tired of getting kicked by horses that weren’t his own” and made the switch to strictly dogs and cats. Dr. Roen graduated from Texas Western College (now the University of Texas at El Paso) in 1966 with his BS in mathematics. He served in the US Air Force for six years as a navigator/electronic warfare officer and flew as an electronic warfare officer in F-105's over North Vietnam. He left the service to return to college and graduated with honors from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. Dr Roen is also an artist, a musician and a writer.
Dr. Amy Cumberland graduated from Washington State University in 2002. Fresh out of school, she split her time between Clarkston Vet Clinic and Southway Animal Clinic. Amy worked for Dr. Roen for several years before she bought the practice in November of 2007. At that time, Dr Roen went into a ‘semi’ retirement and now spends the bulk of his time at the golf course, but he still works there at least one day a week. Before becoming a veterinarian, Amy was a newspaper photographer around the Pacific Northwest. She spends the bulk of her time enjoying the Idaho outdoors and spending time on the river.
The Clarkston Vet Clinic is an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited animal hospital and they must adhere to strict policies and go through a thorough inspection every few years in order to qualify for certification.
Being a member of the Clarkston Chamber keeps the Clarkston Veto Clinic connected to the community they have served for 34 years. It keeps them informed on the events and happenings in the Valley and gives their business positive exposure.
